Iberdrola has initiated the commencement of its pioneering Broadsound solar and battery project in Queensland, Australia, marking a significant leap towards sustainable energy production in the region.

Iberdrola Australia is gearing up to kickstart the construction of the Broadsound Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project at Clarke Creek, Queensland. This groundbreaking venture encompasses a 376MW solar capacity coupled with a 180MW (2hr) BESS, promising to generate ample electricity to power as many as 145,000 households. In addition to this, the project is anticipated to usher in around 350 job opportunities throughout its ambitious two-year construction journey.

Expressing his enthusiasm for this landmark development, Ross Rolfe, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Iberdrola Australia, stated, “After years of catering to the energy needs of Australian customers, including various Queensland commercial and industrial establishments, we are thrilled to venture into local energy generation with the Broadsound Solar Farm and BESS project.”

Rolfe further added, “With over two decades of experience serving Australian communities, we are eager to take this momentous stride into the Queensland market, enhancing our existing portfolio of 1.7 GW of energy assets spread across the country.”

He continued, “Collaborating closely with the local community, First Nations people, as well as the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council, has been immensely rewarding in the development of this project aimed at delivering clean and cost-effective energy.”

In a bid to cement its commitment to the local community, Iberdrola Australia will establish a Community Benefit Fund, which will serve to address the needs of the community during both the construction phase and the operational lifespan of the project, ensuring a holistic approach towards sustainable energy provision.
