Volvo upgrades XC90 SUV with fresh style and revamped interior

Volvo has recently given its XC90 large SUV a stylish new update, both in terms of exterior design and interior features.

The revamped interior boasts a redesigned cabin and dashboard, incorporating premium recycled materials, new vertical air vents, and enhanced lighting. There’s also more storage space in the centre console, including an additional cupholder for convenience. The wireless phone charger is now conveniently located behind the central tunnel, separate from the main storage area.

Moreover, the XC90 now features Volvo’s latest user experience found in their EX90 and EX30 electric cars. The central touchscreen has been upgraded to a larger 11.2-inch display with higher resolution, showcasing the most common apps and controls like maps, media, and phone on the home screen.

Despite the changes, the engine line-up remains the same and includes the mild-hybrid petrol B5 and B6 variants, along with the plug-in hybrid option. The plug-in hybrid now allows for electric-only driving with a quick tap on the multimedia screen, offering over 70km of pure electric range under WLTP testing.

Volvo has set a goal to exclusively sell pure electric cars by 2030. However, they acknowledge the importance of plug-in hybrid models like the XC90 in their current product portfolio, serving as a bridge to a fully electrified future.

Notable enhancements to the refreshed XC90 include improved seating comfort, standard suspension improvements, and an optional air suspension system working in tandem with an active chassis for a comfortable ride. Additional insulation has been added to reduce wind and road noise, and customers can opt for a Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio system for a top-notch audio experience.

Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars, expressed confidence in the new XC90, highlighting its success as a hybrid flagship model with a loyal customer base. He emphasised the vehicle’s ability to deliver on various aspects such as comfort, luxury, and hybrid efficiency.

Customers can now place orders for the new Volvo XC90, with production slated to commence in late 2024 and deliveries expected towards the end of the year. Official pricing details are yet to be released.
