New initiative provides training for repairs and maintenance as recruitment challenges persist.

At Share, the focus is on providing training and development support that meets the needs of the sector, adapting to challenges and innovating to address emerging requirements. To achieve this, Share keeps a close watch on industry trends and works alongside the sector to enhance learning opportunities at every stage. A key aspect of this support is monitoring the recruitment landscape.

Upon reviewing the recruitment pages recently, it was evident that a significant number of job postings were related to assets, repairs, and maintenance, spanning various levels and regions. While the struggle to recruit maintenance staff is not a new dilemma, the surge in advertised positions suggests that the issue may be intensifying.

As the trusted learning and development partner for the sector, Share is committed to delivering training, qualifications, and skill enhancement programs to help organisations in the sector attract and retain talent in repairs and maintenance. With former repairs and factoring professionals on Share’s team, we comprehend the complexities of this skill set. Progressing in this field demands in-depth knowledge of multiple trades, experience in contract management and procurement, and the ability to handle customer expectations and complaints effectively—all while upholding the core principles of exceptional customer service. It is a challenging role that demands a diverse skill set and unwavering dedication.

Share offers four distinct qualification pathways for maintenance staff, each tailored to address different aspects of the repairs and maintenance domain and cater to individuals at varying proficiency levels. These qualifications are now open for enrollment in the upcoming months. Additionally, Share is developing two new qualifications focusing on development and customer service to further enhance the support provided to this segment of the sector.

Nevertheless, Share acknowledges that they may not have full insight into the day-to-day challenges faced by members and customers. Therefore, they encourage organisations to reach out and discuss their specific learning and development requirements for repair roles, or for their team members, by contacting jcloherty@share.org.uk for a casual conversation. With decades of experience and a wide network of accreditation partnerships, Share is committed to delivering the most comprehensive support to enhance your team’s capabilities.
