New energy systems to help vulnerable homes.

Wednesday 4 September 2024
Exciting news for low income and vulnerable consumers in the energy sector as four innovative projects have been chosen to receive a significant boost of £100,000 each. These projects aim to empower those who may struggle to benefit from smart and flexible energy systems, bringing us one step closer to a more inclusive and sustainable future.
The generous funding comes as part of the Inclusive Smart Solutions (ISS) programme, a groundbreaking initiative with a budget of £2.75 million provided by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). The ultimate goal is to eliminate barriers that hinder certain consumers from embracing smart energy technologies.
Over the next 12 months, the selected projects will undergo a comprehensive programme to refine their solutions and make them market-ready. This process will include invaluable support such as consumer insights, go-to-market strategies, and business mentoring.
Rebecca Sweeney, a prominent figure in the industry serving as the Business Leader at Energy Systems Catapult, expressed the importance of ensuring that all members of society, regardless of their income or vulnerability, have access to a smart energy system. She emphasised that this inclusivity is crucial for achieving net zero emissions while ensuring a fair and equitable transition for everyone.
“These projects have showcased their potential to shape the energy landscape of today, where innovation plays a pivotal role in ensuring that no one is left behind,” stated Ms. Sweeney. She went on to highlight the significance of the upcoming year as a unique opportunity for these innovators to fine-tune their products and services through consumer testing, ultimately delivering solutions that meet the genuine needs and preferences of consumers.
