Capital Credit Union Teams Up to Support Members Going Green

Capital Credit Union (CCU) has joined forces with the Greener Energy Group to support members in financing eco-friendly home upgrades such as solar panels, heat pumps, and EV chargers. This partnership comes on the heels of the successful launch of CCU’s green loan in 2023.

CEO Marlene Shiels expressed her enthusiasm for the new collaboration, stating: “Many individuals initially gravitate towards us because of our ethical approach to financial services. The introduction of our green loan and this exciting partnership with Greener Energy Group is a natural progression of that ethos.”

She added, “We are currently receiving numerous inquiries from members seeking to finance enhancements in their homes’ energy efficiency, and this new partnership will offer the necessary financing and expertise to enable more individuals to achieve this in a cost-effective manner at highly competitive rates.”

Since 2014, Greener Energy Group has successfully installed more than 2000 solar PV systems, many of which now boast battery storage, along with over 2,200 air source heat pumps in Scottish residences. This has resulted in saving a substantial amount of 5,029,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide, equivalent to 55,877 hours of flying on a Boeing 737 – or more than 55,000 flights from Glasgow to London.

Peter Chalmers, the group’s managing director, expressed his excitement about the new partnership with Capital Credit Union, stating, “We are truly thrilled about our latest collaboration with Capital Credit Union, as it now offers our customers a seamless avenue to install top-notch renewable energy systems from a reputable Scottish company, funded at a remarkably low interest rate.”

He further commented, “We view this as a positive stride towards assisting customers in transitioning to renewables, enabling energy and cost savings on their fuel bills, while simultaneously contributing to environmental preservation.”

In addition to the financing opportunities, customers can presently claim a grant of up to £9,000 when they opt to install an Air Source Heat Pump.
