New Cupra Terramar SUV: Sporty Tiguan rival with PHEV.

Cupra has recently unveiled the latest addition to its impressive line-up with the introduction of the Terramar compact SUV. This new model was fittingly revealed in Barcelona and is positioned as the Spanish performance brand’s “new hero for a new era”, aligning with Cupra’s strategy to elevate its positioning in the market and target the rapidly growing segment in Europe.
Wayne Griffiths, the CEO of Cupra, expressed his excitement about the Cupra Terramar, stating, “With the Cupra Terramar, we will not only expand our range of products but also elevate our brand positioning, attracting new customers and venturing into new and growing segments while maintaining our rebellious and challenger spirit.”
Based on the VW Group’s MQB Evo platform, the Cupra Terramar shares similarities with the Audi Q3 and Volkswagen Tiguan, solidifying its foundation as a reliable and high-performance vehicle. This latest addition joins Cupra’s robust product portfolio, which includes recent launches such as the Cupra Leon, Formentor, Born VZ, and Tavascan.
The design of the Cupra Terramar embodies the new Cupra design language, featuring distinctive elements like the signature three-triangle lights seen on other models and a sleek rear diffuser. The SUV will be available in nine exterior colours, including unique options like Century Bronze Matt and Enceladus Grey Matt, as well as the eye-catching Dark Void inspired by the Cupra DarkRebel Showcar.
Stepping inside the Cupra Terramar, drivers will be greeted with a driver-focused cockpit equipped with a 12.9-inch multimedia display with a retro-illuminated slider. An optional 12-speaker sound system from Sennheiser adds to the premium experience, while the seats are crafted using sustainable materials like 100% upcycled seaqual yarn or Dinamica, incorporating at least 73% recycled textile or leather with a plant-based tanning process.
Anticipated to be Cupra’s final internal combustion engine model, the Terramar will offer five different powertrains across three technologies. This includes the new-generation eHybrid plug-in hybrid units, capable of delivering up to 272hp and more than 100km of all-electric range. Other options include TSI petrols and eTSI mild hybrids, ensuring a diverse range of choices for customers.
Driving enthusiasts can expect Cupra’s trademark driving dynamics with the standard sport suspension, progressive steering, adaptative chassis control, and Akebono brakes, all working together to deliver an exhilarating driving experience.
Developed and designed in Barcelona, the Cupra Terramar will be manufactured in Audi’s Györ plant in Hungary. Deliveries are set to commence in the final quarter of this year, offering customers the opportunity to experience the latest innovation from Cupra.
Cupra has quickly emerged as one of the industry’s fastest-growing brands, with approximately 700,000 cars delivered since its inception in 2018. The brand’s success continued in the first half of 2024, recording its best half-year performance to date with 125,700 cars delivered, marking a significant 17.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
