Clackmannanshire Council is paving the way towards a brighter future with a clear vision and revised priorities, as outlined in a recent report by external auditors. The council’s approach to monitoring performance, coupled with strong political and officer leadership, has proven effective in setting clear priorities to drive progress.

The Best Value report, presented during a council meeting last week alongside the audited annual accounts, received an unmodified audit report confirming the council’s positive direction.

Key highlights from the report include:

• The council’s clear vision is bolstered by revised priorities and a streamlined monitoring approach.
• Engagement with citizens and communities has been a focal point in developing these priorities.
• Priorities emphasise the importance of reducing inequalities and commitment to addressing climate change.
• An ambitious capital plan aligns with the council’s priorities, with ongoing updates to business plans, workforce plans, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Leadership, both political and officer-based, has effectively set clear priorities, but sustainable plans for implementation are now in focus.

To drive continued progress, auditors have outlined additional improvement actions for the council to consider.

Council leader Cllr Ellen Forson expressed satisfaction with the report, noting, “The positive feedback from the auditors highlights our dedication to planning for the future with measurable objectives in place. Collaboration across political lines and strong relationships between elected officials and officers have been instrumental in our success.”

She acknowledged the financial challenges faced by public bodies, emphasising the need for innovative solutions and tough decision-making. While pleased with the progress indicated by the external auditors, she reiterated the council’s commitment to further improvements based on the advice received.
