15 new council houses greenlit in Linlithgow.

West Lothian Council has recently granted approval for the construction of 15 affordable homes in Linlithgow, a move that is set to address the pressing need for more housing options in the area.
This decision comes after an initial proposal for a housing development near West Calder was abandoned. Instead, the focus has shifted to building 15 units at Deanburn in Linlithgow and an additional five units across sites in Livingston.
During a meeting with the town’s local area committee, Phyllis McFadyen, the local housing officer manager, highlighted the importance of this development in meeting the growing demand for affordable housing in the region. The lead officer of the committee, Graeme Struthers, projected that the construction would be completed by 2025 or 2026.
A recent report presented to the council’s Housing Services Policy Development and Scrutiny Panel shed light on the ongoing negotiations with Cala Homes for the direct acquisition of the completed affordable housing units at the Deanburn site. This strategic move aims to provide much-needed council houses to cater to the high demand in the area.
The housing mix planned for the development reflects the diverse needs of the community, with amenity bungalows also included in the blueprint. It is anticipated that construction will commence in January 2025, with the expected completion set for 2026.
