Yorkhill lands funding for green heating project.

Yorkhill Housing Association is set to embark on an exciting journey towards a greener future, thanks to the recent award of funding from Scottish Enterprise. The association has secured support for a feasibility study that will investigate innovative low-carbon heating solutions for its Overnewton Court retirement complex.
This initiative comes as part of the Can Do Green Heat Retrofit Innovation Challenge, with Yorkhill being one of five select public and voluntary organisations chosen to participate. The focus of the study will be on developing practical and sustainable alternatives to the current aging mini district heating system that serves the Overnewton Court complex.
Located in the vibrant West End of Glasgow, Overnewton Court features 39 homes alongside communal spaces and visitor accommodation. Recent improvements in energy efficiency, such as the installation of new energy-efficient double glazing, have set the stage for this new phase of innovation.
Tony Mallaghan, the chief executive of Yorkhill Housing Association, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to have received this funding and support from Scottish Enterprise. This opportunity will enable us to explore cutting-edge and sustainable heating solutions for our residents. By embracing low-carbon technologies, our aim is to reduce energy consumption, lower heating costs, and contribute to a more sustainable future.”
The project has been granted £50,000 from Scottish Enterprise, and it is anticipated to reach completion by the year’s end. The ultimate goal is to develop an affordable and practical heating solution that will provide residents with low-carbon heating and hot water at a more cost-effective rate. Additionally, the success of this project could potentially pave the way for similar heating installations in other housing developments in the future.
It is truly an exciting time for Yorkhill Housing Association as they take concrete steps towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future. The possibilities are endless, and the potential impact of this project extends beyond just one complex – it sets a precedent for sustainable living across the board. Keep an eye on this space as we eagerly await the unveiling of the innovative heating solutions that will shape the future of Overnewton Court.
