New Audi Q5 gets Plug-in Hybrid upgrades.

Audi has recently introduced the latest iteration of its top-selling Q5 SUV, now equipped with a cutting-edge range of electrified engines and soon-to-be-released plug-in hybrids.

The Q5, which first hit the market in 2008, has managed to maintain its status as one of the most sought-after SUVs in the midsize segment across Germany and Europe for over 15 years.

Scheduled to be available from the upcoming spring season, the third-generation Q5 takes the legacy forward with its dynamic design, state-of-the-art engines, new infotainment features, and upgraded driver assistance systems.

As per the manufacturer, the new Q5 is set to establish unparalleled benchmarks in its category by blending a “sporty, technology-driven design approach” with “unmatched versatility and established practicality for everyday use.”

This model is the brand’s second to be constructed on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform, following the footsteps of the new A5, paving the way for the introduction of hybrid versions as Audi pursues to revitalize its lineup.

While the complete pricing and specifications for the UK market will be disclosed next month, the European unveiling will feature a varied lineup of three mild hybrids, all equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The starting engine option includes the 2.0 TFSI petrol variant, generating 204hp and 340Nm of torque, alongside the quattro all-wheel drive. The lineup also encompasses a 2.0 TDI diesel version, offering the same 204hp power output and 400Nm of torque.

For those seeking more power, the SQ5 boasts a 3.0 TFSI V6 petrol engine with all-wheel drive, delivering an impressive 367hp and a maximum torque of 550Nm.

Dynamically tuned steel suspension is standard, whereas sports suspension can be opted for on higher-tier models.

The plug-in hybrid versions of the Q5 SUV are set to arrive later, along with Sportback variants with a coupe-style design.

Internally, the Q5 relies on a new electronic architecture facilitating a ‘Digital Stage’ that merges the Audi MMI panoramic display with the MMI passenger screen. Advanced trims also incorporate a 10.9-inch MMI passenger screen with an Active Privacy Mode, ensuring the display is only visible to the front-seat passenger to avoid driver distraction.

The sophisticated infotainment setup uses Android Automotive OS as the operating system, enabling seamless over-the-air updates to keep the Audi connect services constantly updated. Popular apps like YouTube and Spotify can be accessed directly through the MMI without the need for a smartphone.

The SQ5 Edition 1 comes equipped with a Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System featuring 16 loudspeakers and 685 watts of power, or alternately available as part of the Sound & Vision Pack on the standard Q5.

A customizable head-up display can be included in the Sound & Vision Pack or is standard on the SQ5 Edition 1.

In terms of safety features, the standard driver assistance systems in Europe incorporate parking system plus with a 360 display, park assist plus, reversing camera, adaptive cruise control with speed limiter, lane departure warning, swerve assist, front turn assist, front emergency brake assist, front cross-traffic intersection assist, efficiency assistant, and attention and drowsiness assistant.

The boot capacity ranges up to 1,473 litres depending on the model variant, with higher trims offering a fully adjustable rear seat that can be moved lengthwise and tilted for increased space.

Additional practical elements include a larger storage compartment under the centre armrest, various smaller storage compartments, an inductive and cooled charging tray with 15 watts of charging power in the front centre console, two USB-C ports in the front, and an additional two in the rear.

The complete technical powertrain details, UK pricing, and specification details are set to be disclosed in October.
