Millions awarded for local projects | UK News

The Welsh Government has made a significant announcement, pledging investment in nearly 40 community projects nationwide. With over £4.3 million set aside for 38 projects across Wales, this funding will support a diverse range of initiatives, from churches and football clubs to biodiversity and financial assistance. The goal is to ensure that these community projects have the resources needed to thrive and continue making a positive impact on local residents.

Through the Community Facilities Programme, organisations will receive support to enhance their spaces. Some examples of projects that will benefit from the funding include:

  • £300,000 for the development of a Homeless Hub on Anglesey
  • £95,000 for the refurbishment of Denbigh Town Football Club
  • £100,000 for a new community volunteer building in Caerphilly

Jane Hutt, Wales’ Cabinet Secretary for Culture and Social Justice, expressed her support for the programme, stating:

“The Community Facilities Programme plays a crucial role in enabling organisations to enhance their facilities, ultimately benefiting local residents in their daily lives. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Gorseinon and witnessing their innovative plans to expand community facilities within the Church space. Each recipient of funding from this programme provides vital services to their communities, and it is wonderful that the Welsh Government can contribute to their efforts.”

The primary objective of the funding programme is to promote opportunity and prosperity within Welsh communities, ultimately fostering engagement and empowerment among residents. This can take various forms, such as improving access to local services, empowering individuals to acquire new skills, and addressing the pressing issue of climate change.

While local authorities are ineligible to apply for funding, organisations are encouraged to collaborate with public sector entities to strengthen project delivery and ensure communities receive adequate support.
