Kia EV6: Longer Range, Faster Charging

Kia has given its EV6 electric crossover a refreshing update, boosting its range and charging capabilities while introducing new styling and technology. The latest version of the brand’s first dedicated EV is now available for purchase, starting at £45,575 and offering three different grades to choose from.
One of the most significant improvements is the larger battery, now providing 84kWh compared to the previous 77.4kWh. This upgrade results in a range of up to 361 miles, an improvement from the previous 328 miles. Additionally, the charging speed has been enhanced to a remarkable 258kW, up from 239kW before. With this new battery, a 10-80% recharge can be achieved in just 18 minutes, delivering an impressive 213 miles of range in a quick 15-minute charge.
The launch line-up for the updated EV6 consists of the Air, GT-Line, and GT-Line S versions, with options for rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The top-of-the-line GT model is set to arrive later. The entry-level Air grade features a RWD set-up with 230hp power, 350Nm torque, and a maximum range of 361 miles.
For those looking for more power and flexibility, the GT-Line and GT-Line S models offer the choice between RWD or AWD configurations. The AWD drivetrain in these models boosts power to 325hp and torque to 605Nm, with ranges of 339 miles and 324 miles respectively. The GT-Line S also offers an optional heat pump for increased efficiency in colder climates.
Standard features across all models include automatic headlights, LED lighting, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a comprehensive infotainment system with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The EV6 also retains its vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, providing 3.6kW of power for various applications.
The entry-level Air version comes with 19-inch alloy wheels, chrome details, and advanced safety features like forward collision avoidance assist and highway driving assist. Moving up to the GT-Line adds a more aggressive design, dual LED headlights, and additional technology such as wireless phone charging and blind-spot collision avoidance.
The top-tier GT-Line S features luxurious touches like 20-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, premium sound system, and advanced driver assistance technologies. With prices starting from £53,675, it represents the pinnacle of the EV6 range.
This updated version of the EV6 aligns with Kia’s ambitious ‘Plan S’ strategy, aiming to launch 15 EVs by 2027, with nine of them earmarked for the UK market. Customer deliveries of the new EV6 are expected to commence later this quarter, followed by the introduction of the EV6 GT in early 2025.
