River Clyde Homes evicts tenants to combat anti-social behaviour.

The River Clyde Homes (RCH) Group has taken a firm stance against anti-social behaviour by securing three eviction decrees against tenants found guilty of engaging in serious misconduct. The Inverclyde-based landlord highlighted the adverse effects of such behaviour on other residents, local businesses, and the overall reputation of the area. In some instances, the severity of the actions prompted neighbouring tenants to consider relocating.

RCH Group successfully obtained eviction decrees for tenants residing in Stanton Square, Port Glasgow, due to their involvement in serious anti-social activities. A spokesperson reiterated the organisation’s unwavering commitment to ensuring safe and comfortable living environments for all tenants while emphasising the grave nature of anti-social behaviour within their properties and communities. Collaboration with local authorities, law enforcement agencies, and community members is essential in addressing and resolving such issues, with legal action deemed necessary in maintaining a harmonious living environment.

One tenant faced an anti-social behaviour order for engaging in street fights and brandishing dangerous weapons, despite which the misconduct continued, leading to the imminent threat of eviction. The tenant eventually chose to relinquish their tenancy voluntarily, averting the need for formal eviction proceedings.

Another tenant drew numerous reports of drug dealing and anti-social conduct, even after serving a prison sentence, necessitating an eviction decree granted by the Greenock Sheriff Court in March 2024. This impactful decision saw the tenant being evicted on 7th May of the same year.

Furthermore, another tenant and their visitors were reported for causing significant disturbances and nuisance to neighbouring residents, breaching tenancy agreements by leaving hazardous items in and around the building. Despite repeated warnings and opportunities to rectify the situation, RCH successfully obtained an eviction decree at the Greenock Sheriff Court, leading to the tenant’s eviction on 18th June 2024.

Elaine Cannon, Head of Housing Services at RCH Group, affirmed the organisation’s dedication to combatting anti-social behaviour through collaborative efforts with law enforcement and local authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. This proactive approach underscores RCH’s commitment to fostering secure and inclusive communities.

Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council’s convener of environment and regeneration, echoed the sentiment of zero tolerance towards anti-social behaviour, emphasising the importance of creating safe and supportive communities. He praised the coordinated efforts of various council services, housing associations, and the police in addressing issues promptly and effectively, underscoring the ongoing commitment to enhancing community safety.
