Kuwait’s Future Net Zero Energy Projects Underway

Technology solutions provider KBR and Kuwait Oil Company are joining forces to revolutionize the renewable energy sector in Kuwait. The ambitious goal is to produce a whopping 17GW of renewables and 25GW of green hydrogen by the year 2050. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant shift in Kuwait’s energy landscape, which is currently heavily reliant on fossil fuels, with renewables accounting for a mere 0.2 per cent of energy generation in 2021. With energy demand expected to triple by 2030, the urgency to diversify and embrace cleaner energy sources has never been more apparent.

Despite these challenges, Kuwait is determined to elevate its renewable energy capacity to 15 per cent by 2030. KBR, a renowned technology solutions company, has been entrusted with the task of developing a comprehensive strategy to facilitate the seamless integration of wind and solar power, along with cutting-edge power storage solutions. This strategic partnership is a testament to KBR’s expertise and unwavering commitment to driving sustainable energy transitions on a global scale.

Jay Ibrahim, President of Sustainable Technology Solutions at KBR, expressed his enthusiasm for this pivotal collaboration, stating, ‘We are thrilled to contribute to the monumental energy transition initiatives in Kuwait, further solidifying our presence in the region. Our extensive experience in delivering successful projects and deploying innovative technologies in the GCC region positions us as a key player in driving impactful change. This win underscores KBR’s dedication to Kuwait, sustainability, and catalysing the energy transition.’

Over the course of the next 18 months, KBR will spearhead efforts to conduct market analyses, assess techno-commercial feasibility, and provide essential training to empower local talents in Kuwait. This multifaceted approach underscores KBR’s holistic commitment to nurturing sustainable energy ecosystems and fostering knowledge transfer to build a resilient and skilled workforce in Kuwait’s burgeoning renewable energy sector.

As we embark on this transformative journey towards a greener future, it is imperative to forge strategic partnerships and leverage cutting-edge technologies to accelerate the transition to clean energy.
