Ashleigh wins £50m Ayrshire Central Hospital contract.

Exciting News Alert!

Big developments are on the horizon as Ashleigh Construction (Scotland) Limited secures a £50 million contract for the construction of over 200 homes at the maternity ward site of Ayrshire Central Hospital. This game-changing project is set to kick off later this year, transforming the Irvine site into the largest new build housing development ever delivered by North Ayrshire Council.

With a ‘certificate of lawfulness’ in hand, the stage is set for the construction of 184 energy-efficient homes for social rent, alongside 16 additional homes on the land and two refurbished gate houses providing even more properties. The initiative marks a significant rejuvenation of the area, as North Ayrshire Council acquired the land from the NHS last year, starting the demolition of the old maternity residence buildings in April.

Supported by approximately £20 million in Scottish Government funding, this £50 million project will cater to a diverse range of residents’ needs, offering a mix of general properties, homes for wheelchair users, and amenity bungalows. The 202 new homes planned for the site play a crucial role in North Ayrshire Council’s ambitious plan to build 1,625 new homes across the region by 2027.

Anticipation is high as work is scheduled to commence later this year, with the entire development expected to take around two years to complete. A spokesperson from North Ayrshire Council expressed their optimism, stating, “Ashleigh Construction (Scotland) Limited have been appointed as the main construction contractor for the new housing development at Ayrshire Central. Works are expected to commence later this year, subject to the council receiving confirmation of external funding to support the scheme.”
