Top day for business drivers charging EVs

Fleet demand for public EV charging is set to skyrocket today as we head into the bank holiday weekend. Business driver EV charging is expected to make up more than a third of all charging over the four-day period, with today being the busiest day.

New research from Allstar indicates that demand for EV charging by business drivers on the Friday before a long weekend has increased by a staggering 183% in the last three years. This growth aligns with Allstar’s previous report showing a 264% year-on-year increase in business EV charging at public charge points.

In their latest Electric Escapes report, Allstar highlights their extensive network coverage across the UK, including in remote and scenic locations like Loch Lomond in Scotland and Portballintrae Harbour in Northern Ireland.

The report also addresses concerns around range anxiety by showcasing Allstar’s network of over 21,000 EV charging locations and 56,000 chargers in the UK. With 82% of these chargers being fast, rapid, or ultra-rapid, drivers can quickly top up their batteries and continue their journeys.

Ashley Tate, MD UK at Allstar Chargepass, emphasises the importance of planning ahead for bank holiday travel. Factors such as increased traffic, hot weather impacting battery efficiency, and potential roadworks can all affect EV drivers on the road.

According to the report, Allstar’s electric charging network covers:

  • 77% of public chargers in Scotland
  • 99% of fast, rapid, or ultra-rapid chargers in Northern Ireland
  • 76% of rapid and ultra-rapid chargers in England
  • 83% of rapid and ultra-rapid chargers in Wales

Tate reiterates Allstar’s commitment to eliminating range anxiety by providing convenient and widespread charging options for drivers. Whether in a city centre or a remote countryside location, drivers can find a charger nearby with a bit of planning.
