Supporting Foster Carers with Work: Charity Spotlight.

Foster carers play a crucial role in society by providing family-based care to children and young people who are unable to live with their own families. Carolina House Trust, one of Scotland’s oldest children’s charities, is dedicated to supporting these foster carers along with the children in their care.

On Thursday, 5 September 2024, Carolina House Trust will be hosting a free event for Chamber members in Dundee and Angus. This event aims to provide support to staff who are also foster carers, recognizing the unique challenges they may face in balancing work and caregiving responsibilities.

Employers have the opportunity to better support foster carers by offering flexible working hours and locations, as well as providing employee assistance programs for counselling, medical, or legal advice. Additionally, extending leave benefits to foster carers and accommodating necessary appointments can make a significant difference in their ability to juggle both roles effectively.

The ‘Supporting Foster Carers at Work’ event will highlight the valuable skills that foster carers bring to the workplace. These individuals are often equipped with resilience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to manage difficult situations, making them valuable assets within any organisation.

Sara Lovelock, the chief operating officer of Carolina House Trust, emphasised the importance of employers recognising and nurturing the skills of foster carers. By creating a supportive environment that values their contributions, employers can benefit from the unique perspectives and expertise that foster carers bring to the table.

The event will take place at Carolina House Trust on 5 September 2024, starting at 11.30am and ending at 2.30pm. Chamber members interested in attending can secure their spot by booking here.
