HACT Fund Helps Social Housing with Energy Bills

HACT Fuel Fund Supports Social Housing Residents with Energy Bills

At the forefront of energy support for social housing residents across England, Scotland, and Wales, HACT celebrates the success of its Fuel Fund scheme, having distributed over £1 million to households in need. This vital initiative has been a beacon of hope for families and individuals, offering financial assistance during the winter months and ensuring manageable energy costs throughout the year.

With an average of £209 per household, the HACT Fuel Fund has empowered over 6,000 households to navigate their energy expenses more effectively, providing a lifeline for many vulnerable families striving to maintain a warm and safe living environment.

A grateful beneficiary shared, “They have really helped me out financially, mentally and eased a big burden of cost at this time with the cost-of-living crisis we are all going through.”

Moreover, 90% of households receiving support from the scheme have also benefited from additional referrals, including financial and benefit advice, energy consultations, and health and wellbeing assistance.

As the winter season looms, the importance of preparing for colder days ahead cannot be overstated. With approximately £1.4 million still available until the end of October, there remains an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of more social housing residents.

Andrew van Doorn, the chief executive of HACT, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all those who have contributed to the success of this programme. Your dedication and hard work have made a significant difference in the lives of thousands of residents, ensuring they have the resources needed to stay warm this winter.”

The Fuel Fund is accessible to housing associations and now to charities as well, providing them with the means to support social housing residents. The programme remains open to new expressions of interest, welcoming all who are committed to making a positive impact.
