Helensburgh Golf Club withdraws housing application

Proposals Withdrawn for Housing Development at Helensburgh Golf Club

Taylor Wimpey West Scotland and Helensburgh Golf Club had jointly submitted a detailed planning application last January for a residential development at Helensburgh Golf Club. The proposed development included a mix of one, two, three, four, and five-bedroom homes, totalling around 307 units. A significant portion, 25% of the homes, were earmarked as affordable housing, with Dunbritton Housing Association and Taylor Wimpey set to deliver this promise. The plan also integrated new access points, landscape enhancements, play areas, and drainage improvements.

The proposed development involved the demolition of the existing clubhouse and the construction of a new clubhouse with modern amenities. However, an email to council planning officers has recently surfaced, requesting the withdrawal of the application. It remains unclear whether the developers will revise and resubmit the plans in the future.

Additionally, the proposed project aimed to revamp the existing golf course, including a full upgrade of the golf holes to offer an enhanced 18-hole golf course experience. A new six-hole par 3 course was also part of the community facility enhancement plans. Despite these ambitious intentions, Argyll and Bute Council received 88 objections from the public against the development.
