Innovations boost UK’s hydrogen economy

Exciting news for the UK’s hydrogen sector as welding technologies company TWI announces its partnership with the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative (HII) to drive innovation and growth in the industry.
Supported by Innovate UK, the HII aims to position the UK as a global leader in hydrogen technology, attracting investors and fostering competitiveness on an international scale.
Dr Gareth Williams, Director for the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative, expressed his enthusiasm about TWI joining the initiative, stating, “We are delighted to welcome TWI as our newest strategic partner. Their expertise in testing hydrogen on various materials will play a crucial role in our mission to transform UK industry into a net zero powerhouse that powers the global hydrogen economy.”
Alec Gunner, Group Manager for Strategic Programmes at TWI, also shared his thoughts on the partnership, highlighting the opportunity to collaborate with other industry leaders within the HII. Gunner stated, “This partnership offers us a significant opportunity to share insights and technological advancements with other organisations in the initiative. The work being done by HII aligns perfectly with our goal of supporting industrial innovation and sustainability.”
The Hydrogen Innovation Initiative is currently developing its Case for Action, which will outline a strategic plan for the UK to capitalize on the opportunities within the global hydrogen technology market. Through roundtable discussions, surveys, interviews, and economic analysis, HII aims to provide actionable recommendations and industry commitments to drive the hydrogen sector forward.
