Faster EV charger installs with Connected Kerb’s new DNO deal

Connected Kerb has partnered with independent distribution network operator (IDNO) Eclipse Power in a strategic move set to revolutionise the installation process for its public EV chargers. This landmark agreement is poised to drastically reduce installation times, allowing Connected Kerb to expedite the deployment of thousands of new public chargers by the year 2030.

By entrusting Eclipse Power to oversee and streamline the connection process to the grid, Connected Kerb is paving the way for a seamless and efficient installation experience. As an IDNO, Eclipse Power specialises in simplifying the often complex process of connecting charge points, taking into account the varying protocols of the UK’s 14 regional distribution network operators (DNOs) and the lack of regulatory alignment.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership, Jamie Aspin, business development manager at Eclipse Power, highlighted the imminent surge in demand for charge point installations as the UK transitions towards electrified transportation. He underscored the critical role that streamlined connection processes play in ensuring the timely and cost-effective energisation of charge points.

“Between now and 2030, we anticipate a tidal wave of charge point installations, reflecting the UK’s unparalleled shift towards electric vehicles. To harness this momentum effectively, charge point operators require support in energising their installations efficiently and affordably. As an IDNO, we collaborate with independent connection providers (ICPs) and stakeholders to eliminate inefficiencies and drive down costs for charge point operators,” Aspin affirmed.

The collaboration has already kickstarted efforts to connect approximately 500 Connected Kerb charge points within the established framework. Chris Matthews, chief network delivery officer at Connected Kerb, lauded the partnership’s potential to expedite connection times and assist local authorities in meeting their installation targets.

“As a trusted provider of public charging solutions for local authorities, accelerating connection times empowers us to support communities in achieving their installation goals, particularly in areas currently lacking adequate charge point access,” Matthews remarked.
