BYD teams up with Uber to boost electric vehicle shift.

BYD and Uber have just announced a game-changing partnership that will revolutionise the way we travel. This multi-year strategic collaboration aims to introduce a whopping 100,000 new BYD electric vehicles onto the Uber platform in key global markets.
Starting off in Europe and Latin America, this groundbreaking alliance is set to provide Uber drivers with access to competitive pricing and financing options for BYD electric vehicles. The plan is to eventually roll out this initiative in markets across the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
By working in tandem, the two companies hope to drive down the overall cost of owning an electric vehicle for Uber drivers. This move is poised to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles on the Uber platform worldwide and introduce millions of passengers to eco-friendly rides.
In a bid to support drivers making the shift to electric vehicles, the collaborative efforts may include various perks such as discounts on charging, vehicle maintenance, insurance, as well as financing and lease offers tailored to suit the needs of drivers in different markets.
Furthermore, both companies are set to join forces in developing future BYD autonomous-capable vehicles that will be deployed on the Uber platform.
Chuanfu Wang, chairman and president of BYD, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “Uber and BYD share a commitment to innovate towards a cleaner, greener world, and I am excited to work together towards that future.”
Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, also shared his enthusiasm, saying, “As the largest global agreement of its kind, we’re thrilled about the benefits this partnership will deliver for drivers, riders, and cities.”
He added, “When an Uber driver makes the switch to an EV, they can deliver up to four times the emissions benefits compared to a regular motorist, simply because they are on the road more. Many riders also tell us their first experience with an EV is on an Uber trip, and we’re excited to help demonstrate the benefits of EVs to more people around the world.”
Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD and CEO of BYD Americas, expressed her delight at the collaboration, stating, “We are elated to join forces with a global leader like Uber to not only accelerate the transition to electric vehicles but also to make green transportation accessible and affordable for everyone.”
She added, “This collaboration marks a new era in the electrification of urban mobility, and we look forward to seeing our cutting-edge EVs become a common sight on the streets of cities worldwide.”
