BYD partners with Uber for electric vehicle initiative.
BYD, an electric vehicle and battery firm, has recently revealed an exciting multi-year strategic global partnership with Uber, the renowned ride-hailing service.
As part of this ground-breaking agreement, a whopping 100,000 brand-new BYD electric vehicles are set to join the Uber platform in various key global markets. The rollout of these electric vehicles will kick off in Europe and Latin America, offering Uber drivers unparalleled access to top-notch pricing and financing options for BYD vehicles. The partnership will gradually expand its reach to encompass markets across the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
The primary aim of this collaboration between BYD and Uber is to drive down the total cost of electric vehicle ownership for Uber drivers, subsequently accelerating the adoption of EVs on the Uber platform worldwide.
Despite private car owners trailing behind, Uber drivers are embracing electric vehicles at an impressive five times faster rate. However, surveys indicate that the high cost of EVs and limited financing options pose significant barriers to this transition. In response to these challenges, the partnership between BYD and Uber promises potential discounts on charging, vehicle maintenance, insurance, financing, and leasing offers tailored to specific markets.
Furthermore, the two companies are set to join forces in exploring the realm of BYD autonomous-capable vehicles for future deployment on the Uber platform.
Chuanfu Wang, the Chairman and President of BYD, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential impact, stating: “Uber and BYD share a commitment to innovate towards a cleaner, greener world, and I am excited to work together towards that future.”
In a parallel sentiment, Dara Khosrowshahi, the CEO of Uber, highlighted the environmental benefits of transitioning to electric vehicles, affirming that Uber drivers can significantly reduce emissions by making the switch. Khosrowshahi also noted the crucial role that Uber plays in introducing riders to electric vehicles and driving awareness of their benefits globally.
Stella Li, the Executive Vice President of BYD and CEO of BYD Americas, expressed her delight in partnering with a global leader like Uber to not only expedite the shift to electric vehicles but also to make environmentally friendly transport more accessible and affordable. Li envisioned a transformative era in urban mobility with a surge of cutting-edge BYD EVs dominating city streets worldwide.
This momentous partnership between BYD and Uber represents a pivotal step towards a cleaner, greener future in transportation. By combining their expertise and resources, both companies are poised to revolutionize the landscape of urban mobility, making electric vehicles a ubiquitous choice for Uber drivers and riders alike.
