New Solar Panels Power Distribution Centre
Shawton Energy has joined forces with Knowles Logistics in a groundbreaking collaboration to bring about a large-scale rooftop solar energy project at a distribution centre in Wisbech.
The distribution centre, which operates on behalf of Princes, a leading international food and drink group, now boasts an impressive array of solar panels that promise to slash carbon emissions by a whopping 135 tonnes annually.
Knowles Logistics has made a firm commitment to steering its logistics operations towards sustainability, aiming to achieve net zero status in warehousing by 2030 and in transport by 2045.
This solar installation marks a significant step towards Princes’ ambitious 2030 Green Goals initiative, which sets out the group’s vision to become a carbon-neutral manufacturer across its UK and global operations by 2030.
Back in late 2023, Shawton Energy forged a partnership with Lazard Asset Management to spearhead the deployment of fully funded solar photovoltaic (PV) projects for industrial and commercial clients throughout the UK.
Jamie Shaw, the CEO of Shawton Energy, expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We possess a profound knowledge of solar solutions for warehousing and food production sites and can offer bespoke, cutting-edge solutions for businesses dedicated to a sustainable future.”
He added, “Food manufacturers strive to source and package their products sustainably, making it imperative for logistics companies to operate using clean, renewable energy sources.”
Shaw pointed out, “The growing pressure from retailers and consumers to adopt sustainable practices is propelling advancements in supply chain sustainability.”
He emphasised, “As major supermarkets increasingly focus on reducing their value chain emissions and minimising their environmental impact, Scope 3 Emissions will become an increasingly critical issue for food manufacturers and their operating sites.”
Highlighting the success of the collaboration, Alex Knowles, the Managing Director of Knowles Logistics, remarked, “At Knowles, we are deeply committed to sustainability and constantly seek out ways to ramp up green energy production across our vast 2 million sq/ft warehousing portfolio.”
He continued, “Not only does this initiative help us significantly mitigate our environmental footprint, but it also allows our customers to benefit from the most environmentally friendly supply chain solutions.”
