Event helps youngsters develop skills for future careers.

Scottish health and wellbeing charity LinkLiving and McTaggart Construction Limited have joined forces to provide 18 young individuals with a glimpse into the world of construction. The collaboration aimed to offer participants valuable insights and hands-on experience in the construction industry, paving the way for potential future careers in this sector.

The skills event took place at Link Academy in Falkirk on Friday, July 19, where attendees engaged in various activities such as creating planters, designing storage solutions, painting, and mono-blocking. The McTaggart team was present to offer expert industry advice, shedding light on the numerous opportunities available within the construction field.

Moreover, the young participants had the opportunity to interact with some of McTaggart’s young employees, who shared their personal experiences and provided valuable insights into working in the construction industry at a young age.

Sarah Smith, the chief executive of LinkLiving and director of communities at Link Group, expressed her excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Deciding on a career path and acquiring the necessary skills can be a daunting task for young individuals. Therefore, the partnership between LinkLiving and McTaggart to organize this event is truly commendable.”

She further added, “I hope that the attendees gained a deeper appreciation for the diverse range of job opportunities within the housing, building, and construction sectors. Perhaps, some of them will emerge as the architects, builders, and maintainers of Scotland’s future homes!”

John Allan, the construction director at McTaggart, highlighted the vast array of opportunities available within the construction industry for young people to cultivate new skills and embark on a rewarding career path. He emphasised their commitment to nurturing the next generation of workforce by investing in training and development.

As Scotland’s leading apprentice employer, McTaggart is dedicated to supporting youth initiatives and providing encouragement to individuals considering a career in construction. The partnership with LinkLiving underscores the significance of collaboration in creating pathways for young individuals to explore and flourish in the construction sector.
