Shetland Council Seeks Housing for New Staff.

The Shetland Islands Council is reaching out to property owners to help accommodate incoming council workers who are struggling to find a place to live due to the pressure on the local housing market.
If you have properties available for short, medium, or long-term let, the council is asking you to provide your details to be shared with new council employees in need of housing. It is essential that anyone offering accommodation complies with the relevant legislation, such as being a Registered Landlord or having the property licensed for Short Term Letting.
Maggie Sandison, the chief executive, highlighted the importance of finding suitable accommodation for new staff members to ensure they can provide vital public services in areas like schools and social work. She stated, “We know there are many people in Shetland who are struggling to find accommodation, and our long-term housing strategy aims to address that.”
If you have a property that you would consider letting, the council would like to hear from you. Your details will be shared with new council staff members looking for housing, allowing them to discuss the specifics directly with you.
If you believe you have suitable accommodation available, please contact the council’s Human Resources team at HumanResources@shetland.gov.uk or call 01595 744023.
