Breaking News!

Welcome to the Net Zero Club News Network, your source for all things related to sustainability and environmental progress. Today, we bring you an exciting update on the latest findings from the Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing (SRS).

A recent survey conducted as part of the annual review of the SRS has revealed that housing associations are making significant strides in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics. The survey found that an impressive 77% of funders in the sector believe that the SRS has contributed to the provision of better and more useful information to assess ESG performance.

These findings are a testament to the success of the SRS in achieving its goals, including connecting housing associations with funders seeking ESG investments and driving improvements in ESG performance. The third annual review highlighted progress in areas such as energy efficiency and equal pay, showing that the sector is on the right track.

The survey, which gathered responses from 98 housing providers and funders, also revealed some key insights:

  • 74% of housing providers found it easy to report against the SRS, with many finding the process smoother with experience.
  • 58% of housing providers are using the SRS to benchmark their ESG performance against peers.
  • Nearly half of housing providers and the majority of funders agree that ESG reporting has prompted actions that may not have otherwise been taken.

Brendan Sarsfield, chair of SfH, expressed pride in the progress made by SRS Adopters, noting the increase in energy-efficient homes and the continued delivery of affordable housing. He highlighted the SRS as a crucial tool for driving positive change and fostering transparency in the sector.

Launched in November 2020, the SRS has become a leading framework for transparent, consistent, and comparable ESG reporting in social housing. With 157 Adopters responsible for approximately 2.4 million homes in the UK, including 120 housing providers and 37 funders, the SRS community is driving sustainability on a significant scale.

This third annual review provides a detailed analysis of the ESG performance of Adopters, showcasing the positive impact of the Standard on the sector. Stay tuned for more updates on the latest developments in sustainable housing practices!
