Manor Estates Deputy CEO Carolyn Hughes to Retire

After nineteen years of dedicated service, Carolyn Hughes, the housing management director/depute CEO at Manor Estates Housing Association, has decided to retire, bidding farewell to the Association on 26th July 2024. Throughout her tenure, Carolyn has played a crucial role in shaping social housing in Edinburgh, leaving a lasting legacy that will be greatly missed by staff, board members, and colleagues across the housing sector.

Reflecting on her time at Manor Estates, Carolyn expressed gratitude for the support she has received over the years, stating, “I’ve seen many changes over the past 19 years, both at Manor Estates and throughout the sector. It has been a privilege to work for the Association during some exciting and challenging times. I hugely appreciate the support I have had from colleagues (at Manor and beyond) and board members over the years and am proud to have been part of an organisation that strives to provide excellent services to all our tenants.”

As Carolyn bids farewell, Manor Estates welcomes Nicola Stobie as its new housing management director. Nicola, who brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience from her time at Argyll Community Housing Association, officially joined the team on 15th July 2024. Speaking about her new role, Nicola expressed her excitement, stating, “I am delighted to have joined the fantastic team at Manor Estates, to be taking over from a highly respected director/depute CEO and working back in Edinburgh. The sector faces some challenging times but there are also great opportunities ahead.”

Claire Ironside, CEO of Manor Estates, shared her appreciation for Carolyn’s contributions, wishing her a long and happy retirement. Recognizing the significant impact Carolyn’s retirement will have on the housing management team, Ironside also expressed excitement about the fresh perspectives and experiences Nicola brings to the Association, stating, “Everyone at Manor Estates wishes Carolyn a very long and happy retirement. Her retiral represents a huge change for the Association and in particular the housing management team, after all these years. Simultaneously, we are excited about Nicola joining us, bringing new experiences and views to the Association.”
