Hyundai boosts Ioniq 5 with larger batteries for longer range

Hyundai has introduced a range of enhancements for its Ioniq 5 electric SUV, featuring refreshed exteriors, new trims, larger batteries, and extended driving ranges.
Originally launched in February 2021, this fully electric compact crossover now boasts new 63kWh ‘Standard Range’ and 84kWh ‘Long Range’ batteries, replacing the previous 58kWh and 77kWh packs, resulting in a maximum range of up to 354 miles.
The updated Ioniq 5 brings forth a brand-new entry-level trim known as Advance, positioned below the existing Premium and Ultimate grades, as well as the recently introduced N Line and N Line S specifications.
The entry-level model, Ioniq 5 Advance Standard Range, is equipped with a 63kWh battery and a 170hp rear-mounted motor, priced from £39,900, offering a WLTP combined range of up to 273 miles. Additionally, the Standard Range 63kWh 170PS RWD model is also available with the Premium grade, starting at £42,400.
Both Advance and Premium models can be outfitted with the Long Range 84kWh battery pack, paired with a 228hp rear-mounted motor, providing a WLTP combined range of 354 miles. The Advance Long Range 84kWh 228PS RWD is priced at £43,400, whereas the Premium Long Range 84kWh 228PS RWD starts at £45,900.
Moreover, the N Line, Ultimate, and N Line S variations offer the Long Range 84kWh battery with a 228hp rear-wheel-drive powertrain, along with an all-wheel-drive option featuring a motor on each axle, delivering a total power output of 325hp.
For N Line and N Line S models, the Long Range 84kWh 228hp rear-wheel-drive powertrain offers a combined range of up to 320 miles, with the all-wheel-drive option extending the range to 307 miles.
The Ultimate specification boasts a combined range of up to 329 miles, stretching to 311 miles when coupled with the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive powertrains, respectively.
In terms of efficiency, a battery heating system with pre-conditioning and a heat pump is now standard across all trims, ensuring improved performance. The Ioniq 5 comes equipped with 800V charging as standard, compatible with 350kW ultra-rapid chargers, allowing for a 10-80% charge in just 18 minutes. In addition, the system accommodates both domestic wall box charging and mainstream public 400V high-speed charging, optimizing charge times where feasible.
The new Advance trim includes features such as 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and daytime running lights, electrically adjustable and heated body-colored door mirrors with power folding functionality, heated front seats and steering wheel, rear-view monitor with dynamic parking guidance, Bluetooth Connectivity with voice recognition, and a dual 12.3-inch touchscreen satellite navigation and media center featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Stepping up to the Premium grade introduces an auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror, advanced driver assistance features, smart electric tailgate with hands-free opening, interior Vehicle to Load (V2L), wireless phone charger, LED headlights with intelligent front lighting, and ambient interior lighting with 64 color options.
The N Line variant draws inspiration from the Ioniq 5 N, showcasing 20-inch N design alloy wheels, auto flush door handles, privacy glass on the rear and tailgate windows, front and rear lower bumper design cues from the Ioniq 5 N, and N Line details for both the interior and exterior.
Opting for the Ultimate trim level elevates the experience with 20-inch alloy wheels, auto-dimming / digital rear-view mirror, head-up display, Bose Premium Audio speaker system, solar glass on the windscreen and front windows, chrome side body molding, laminated glazing on the front and rear windows, leather seat trim for the front seats, and heated outer rear seats with remote folding capability.
Additionally, customers can select an optional Tech Pack offering remote smart park assist, parking collision avoidance assist – reverse, surround view monitor, and blind spot view monitor. A Tech Pack Max is also available, adding digital side mirrors, relaxation seats, driver memory seat, and electric sliding rear seats. The Zen Pack option includes relaxation seats, driver memory seat, electric sliding rear seats, and a vision roof.
