Get Living sells Glasgow rental site

Build-to-rent operator Get Living has recently made a significant move by selling its Glasgow development site to Galliard Apsley Partnership. This development site, stretching across 7.5 acres behind High Street rail station, holds the potential to become home to 821 rental homes and 681 purpose-built student accommodation units. The site carries historical significance as it was once the location of Glasgow University and the Hunterian Museum, later transforming into the goods yard of the City of Glasgow Union Railway Company.
While the project had received existing consent for construction, Get Living decided to put it on hold last year due to challenges posed by the Scottish Government’s rent control policy and prevailing market conditions. Following the sale, the company announced that the proceeds would fortify its financial position and facilitate strategic capital reallocation within its portfolio. Get Living is now focusing on launching four schemes in Lewisham, Leatherhead, and Birmingham in the upcoming year, alongside a major regeneration project at Elephant & Castle scheduled for 2026.
Expressing his views on the Glasgow site’s disposal, Get Living’s chief executive, Rick de Blaby, stated, “The disposal of the Glasgow site is the result of a review of our development strategy, enabling us to recycle capital into our operational and development assets, within which we have four schemes launching in the next two years. We wish Galliard Apsley Partnership and the city of Glasgow every success in their development of this important site.”
Galliard Apsley Partnership, a collaboration between Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital with a focus on large-scale brownfield regeneration, has set its sights on revitalizing this strategic location in Glasgow. With plans to submit a new application, the partnership aims to breathe new life into the area with a design-oriented urban scheme that offers a mix of housing options, improved connectivity, and top-notch public spaces for the benefit of both residents and visitors.
Chairman of Apsley House Capital, Gerard Nock, remarked, “Throughout history, the site has played an important part in the development of Glasgow and Merchant City. Strategically located and well connected, we will submit a new application that will bring the site back to life and enhance the local area with a design-led urban scheme that provides a mix of tenures, increased connectivity, and high-quality public realm to benefit residents and the public.”
Adding to the sentiments, Stephen Conway, CEO and executive chairman of Galliard Homes, expressed, “We are delighted with this significant development in Glasgow, a city with a rich heritage and vibrant future. This site aligns perfectly with our vision of turning urban spaces into thriving communities. Together with Apsley House Capital, we are committed to delivering a high-quality, mixed-use development, providing much-needed rental and student housing.”
