Clydebank residents to shape £20m plan

Residents from all areas of Clydebank are being invited to participate in shaping a new 10-year plan for the town, with an impressive £20 million grant set to fuel this transformative initiative. The funding, which equates to around £2 million per year over the next decade, is part of the UK Government’s Long Term Plan for Towns initiative, aiming to revitalise and enhance local communities.
Collaborating closely with the Town Board, West Dunbartonshire Council is gearing up to develop innovative plans leveraging this endowment-style funding. The strategic focus is on implementing long-term measures to enhance Clydebank, adopting a place-centred approach that resonates with the unique aspirations of the community.
The allocation of the funding will hinge on the approval of a comprehensive Long Term Plan mandated by the UK Government. This plan seeks to build upon the Clydebank Town Centre Development Framework, which received approval in 2021 and outlined a visionary 15-year roadmap for transforming the town centre into a vibrant, appealing hub for all.
Recently, West Dunbartonshire CVS reached out to local community organisations to gather their insights and feedback. Now, the spotlight shifts to the residents, offering them a pivotal opportunity to influence the projects that will converge under the expansive 10-year plan.
To facilitate community engagement, two drop-in events have been scheduled at Clydebank Shopping Centre on Thursday 25th July and Friday 26th July, running from 11 am to 2 pm. These events aim to foster dialogue, gather ideas, and channel the collective wisdom of Clydebank’s diverse population.
Councillor David McBride, the convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration, and Economic Development, underlines the significance of this milestone in breathing new life into Clydebank. He asserts the importance of ensuring that residents, workers, and visitors have a voice in shaping the future of the town.
Adding to this sentiment, Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, the vice convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration, and Economic Development, encourages individuals with a stake in Clydebank to join the drop-in events. By actively participating, residents can help steer the trajectory of the town towards a brighter, more prosperous future.
