Springfield backs Kinross foodbank with donation.

Springfield Properties has generously donated £500 to the Kinross-shire charity, Broke Not Broken.

The charity, established in 2013 as a foodbank, has expanded its services over the years to meet the growing needs of the community, striving to eradicate the reliance on foodbanks altogether. Broke Not Broken now operates approximately 14 projects, providing food packs containing fresh vegetables cultivated by the charity in the community garden, as well as food vouchers tailored for families with dietary restrictions.

In addition to food support, the charity also assists community members with fuel top-ups to alleviate home heating expenses and collaborates with The Heat Project to offer expert guidance on efficient heating practices, thus reducing heating costs.

Springfield’s donation of £500 will cover the food expenses for at least 10 families of four for a week.

Expressing his admiration for the charity’s diverse range of services, Springfield’s managing director, Andy Curran, remarked, “I was deeply impressed by the extensive support offered by Broke Not Broken to the community, despite limited resources and staff. It is disheartening to see so many individuals depending on charitable organisations in today’s society.

“The dedication of Broke Not Broken’s staff and volunteers to the well-being of their community is evident, and their continuous evolution to introduce new services reflects their commitment to assist all those in need.

“We are delighted to contribute to the charity and the community it serves through this donation.”

As school holidays commence, Broke Not Broken has organised six outings, covering travel, tickets, and meals for 100 local residents to alleviate financial strain during the summer break. The charity has also prepared school uniform parcels, to be distributed in school bags ahead of the upcoming term in August.

Hannah Duncan, a development officer and one of the two part-time employees at Broke Not Broken, shared, “At Broke Not Broken, our mission is to confront poverty in Kinross-shire directly. We collaborate with various professional services to provide not just immediate assistance, but also expert advice to help individuals facing tough times to regain stability.

“This includes free ongoing counselling sessions, as poverty often intertwines with mental health and well-being challenges, as well as our Advice Hub where support agencies like Perth and Kinross Welfare Rights offer face-to-face consultations with the community.

“Like many charitable organisations, we heavily rely on donations, especially as the demand for our services has increased significantly in recent years. We are sincerely grateful for Springfield’s contribution and, as always, for our dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers – without them, we wouldn’t be able to offer such extensive support to the community.”
