Horizon Housing Honoured for Accessibility Work

Horizon Housing receives Recognition for Promoting Accessibility

Horizon Housing has earned commendation from MSP Jeremy Balfour for spearheading the inaugural Accessibility and Inclusion Award at the Scottish Home Awards 2024. The award highlights Horizon’s commitment to promoting accessibility and inclusion in housing design.

Jeremy Balfour MSP submitted a parliamentary motion to the Scottish Parliament acknowledging Horizon’s efforts and also mentioned their forthcoming Housing and Social Care Accessibility Summit. This summit, in collaboration with Scottish Housing News and supported by Campion Homes, is scheduled to take place at the V&A in Dundee on September 26.

The winner of the first-ever Accessibility and Inclusion Award was announced at the Scottish Home Awards in June. Primrose Place in Alloa, a project by Campion Homes and Kingdom Housing Association, secured the prestigious accolade, setting a high benchmark for future accessibility initiatives.

The parliamentary motion in full reads, “That the Parliament congratulates Horizon Housing Association for sponsoring the first-ever Accessibility and Inclusion Award at the Scottish Home Awards 2024; notes that Primrose Place in Alloa, a partnership between Campion Homes and Kingdom Housing Association, was the inaugural winner of the award; understands that Horizon Housing Association and Scottish Housing News are co-hosting the Housing and Social Care Accessibility Summit at the V&A in Dundee in September, where accessibility and inclusion will be key themes of this noteworthy event.”

Various MSPs have lent their support to the motion, including Colin Beattie, Miles Briggs, Stephanie Callaghan, Foysol Choudhury, Sharon Dowey, Jackie Dunbar, and many others, recognizing the importance of accessibility and inclusion in shaping the future of housing.
