Former Broughty Ferry care home to become apartments, thanks to Hillcrest.

Hillcrest, a renowned housing provider, has recently proposed an exciting project to the Dundee City Council. The plan involves transforming the historic Ferry House in Broughty Ferry, which closed earlier this year, into a collection of modern residential apartments.
Ferry House, standing proud on Gray Street for over a century, was a cherished care home for elderly women. However, due to its deteriorating condition, the closure became inevitable. Now, Hillcrest aims to breathe new life into this beloved, B-listed building by converting it into seven stylish flats, comprising of three, two, and one-bedroom apartments.
What truly sets this project apart is Hillcrest’s commitment to preserving the building’s heritage. The majority of the existing rooms will be retained and re-purposed, honouring the rich history of Ferry House. The project also includes the restoration of the original entrance foyer and staircase, which will serve as a communal area for four of the apartments, as reported by the Courier.
Additionally, the main dining room and lounge of Ferry House will be transformed into cozy living spaces for the residents of the respective flats, adding a touch of elegance to the contemporary design. As part of the refurbishment plan, the “secondary staircase” located at the rear of the building will be removed, enhancing both the aesthetics and functionality of the space.
With Hillcrest’s visionary approach and dedication to preserving the character of Ferry House, this transformation promises to be a seamless blend of tradition and modernity. By repurposing this historic landmark, Hillcrest is not only providing much-needed housing but also ensuring that the rich legacy of Broughty Ferry lives on for generations to come.
