Auchengeich Boxing Club receives £10k donation from Persimmon and Sanctuary Scotland

The Auchengeich Boxing Club, based in Stepps, has received a generous donation of £10,000 worth of new equipment from Persimmon West Scotland and Sanctuary Scotland. This partnership aims to upgrade the club’s clubhouse with essential items such as new flooring, treadmills, and other necessary materials.

Established in 1975 by local miners, the Auchengeich Boxing Club initially operated from the Moodiesburn Pivot Centre before relocating to a historic shed in Stepps in 2011, previously used by world champion boxer Ricky Burns. Over the years, the club has welcomed renowned boxers like Mick Conlan, Lee Selby, Rodrigo Guerrero, and Carl Frampton, in addition to nurturing its own champions like former Commonwealth champion Brian Carr, who now serves as a coach.

Catering to a diverse range of visitors from the community, including aspiring boxers and fitness enthusiasts, the club strives to keep its activities accessible by minimizing costs. Joe Martin, representing the Auchengeich Boxing Club, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting its importance in maintaining a safe environment for individuals of all ages to engage in various activities offered by the club.

Craig Moore, the land director of Persimmon West Scotland, shared his enthusiasm for supporting local initiatives like the Auchengeich Boxing Club, emphasizing the positive impact of the donation on the community. Similarly, Gillian Lavety, Sanctuary’s development director, underscored the importance of investing in local communities beyond providing affordable housing.

The donation from Persimmon West Scotland and Sanctuary Scotland is part of their community engagement efforts associated with the Royale Meadows development in Muirhead. By collaborating to support the Auchengeich Boxing Club, these organisations are not only enhancing the club’s facilities but also contributing to the overall well-being of the local community. With this support, the club is poised to thrive and serve its members effectively for years to come.
