Welcome Louise Haigh as new UK Transport Secretary, says EVA England.

EVA England is thrilled to announce the appointment of Louise Haigh as the new Transport Secretary in Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s cabinet. Haigh, who has been the MP for Sheffield Heeley since 2015, has been tasked with overseeing the transport portfolio after previously holding the shadow transport brief since 2021.
With a diverse background that includes serving as a shadow policing officer and shadow secretary of state for Northern Ireland, Haigh brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her time as a former Special Constable has equipped her with valuable insights into the transport and infrastructure challenges facing the country.
Labour’s election promises have highlighted their commitment to tackling climate change by reinstating the 2030 ICE phase-out for cars. This initiative will be supported by the accelerated rollout of charging points and measures to assist second-hand EV buyers through standardising battery condition information.
Moreover, Labour plans to safeguard the future of key industries such as automotive and steel by allocating funds from the National Wealth Fund. A significant portion of £1.5bn will be directed towards establishing new gigafactories, with the aim of positioning the UK’s automotive sector as a global leader.
In addition to these commitments, Labour has pledged to enhance the country’s roads network, address the soaring costs of car insurance, and implement a comprehensive road safety strategy. These measures are designed to improve road infrastructure, ensure affordable insurance coverage, and enhance overall safety for motorists.
James Court, the CEO of EVA England, has expressed his congratulations to Louise Haigh on behalf of the electric vehicle advocacy group. He emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum towards achieving net zero targets and meeting the demands of EV drivers. The increasing satisfaction among EV owners and the growing presence of electric vehicles on UK roads underscore the promising future for EV adoption.
EVA England is eager to collaborate with the new Transport Secretary to drive forward the development of charging infrastructure and support networks. By working together, they aim to ensure that the transition to electric vehicles is smooth and seamless for all drivers, while also accelerating progress towards a sustainable and emissions-free transport system.
As the UK pushes ahead with its ambitious climate goals, the appointment of Louise Haigh as Transport Secretary signals a positive step towards achieving a greener and more sustainable future for the country’s transportation sector.
