Free chargers on offer for companies in EV trial.
Calling all companies to participate in an exciting trial of cutting-edge vehicle-to-grid (V2G) electric vehicle workplace charging technology! This innovative project has the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions and lower energy costs while showcasing leadership in sustainability.
The V2VNY project aims to demonstrate, test, and refine V2G technology, representing a groundbreaking opportunity to push the boundaries of charging technology and pave the way for its widespread adoption.
Open to businesses with a keen interest in sustainability, this project offers participants a free V2G EV charger, which they can keep post-trial. V2G technology allows electric vehicles to charge during off-peak hours when electricity costs are low and then return energy to the grid or another vehicle/building when costs are higher.
Together with partners Hangar 19, DriveElectric, and CrowdCharge, the project aims to unlock the full potential of V2X services, utilising AI-powered technology to maximise value across individual vehicles, fleets, and workplace ecosystems.
Joining forces with Grid Beyond, Oxfordshire County Council, Electric Corby, and JLR, who will provide prototype electric vehicles, the V2VNY project is one of the first trials in the UK to embrace AC charging with the latest V2L technology in EVs from Genesis, Hyundai, Kia, or MG.
Participants in the trial, set to start in September 2024, will receive a free 7kW AC bidirectional charger, along with a software package valued at over £5,750 to optimise charging. While the charger can be retained post-trial, participants will need to cover installation and software usage costs.
Mike Potter, CEO of CrowdCharge and DriveElectric, highlights the vast potential of over one million electric vehicles serving as untapped battery storage resources, advocating for their use to alleviate pressure on electricity networks, reduce costs, and lower carbon emissions.
Funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) through the up to £65m Flexibility Innovation Programme from the £1bn Net Zero Innovation Portfolio, the V2VNY Phase 2 project is a pivotal part of the V2X Innovation Programme.
With the trial set to commence in September 2024 until the end of March 2025, interested companies are encouraged to act swiftly as limited spaces are available for the last few remaining chargers.
