[Thenue helps tenants claim £1.3m in benefits]

Thenue Housing Association’s Financial Inclusion Team has achieved a significant milestone by securing £1.3 million in unclaimed benefits for its tenants over the past year. This accomplishment marks the third consecutive annual increase, shedding light on the escalating need for financial support in the face of a cost-of-living crisis.

The £1.3 million acquired for Thenue tenants, spanning from April 2023 to the end of March this year, is a notable upsurge from the £1.1 million obtained the previous year, which itself was an improvement from £1.03 million the year before that.

According to the team, this cash injection, inclusive of various state benefits, is actively addressing the challenges posed by the cost-of-living crisis. Gary Naylor, the chief executive of Thenue, commended the team’s dedication, stating that they are diligently working to put money back into the pockets of the tenants.

Oftentimes, individuals are unaware of their eligibility for certain benefits, resulting in unclaimed funds. Mr Naylor highlighted, “This remarkable figure, depicting a continuous rise over the past year, reflects our staff’s unwavering commitment to assisting individuals during this time of unprecedented need.”

He further added, “Many individuals are grappling with the pressures of rising living costs, and we are steadfast in our efforts to provide assistance. Our staff is devoted to guiding individuals through the sometimes complex process of benefit applications, which they rightfully deserve. Moreover, our services are completely free and confidential.”

Gail Shearer, Thenue’s income maximisation manager and the leader of the team, emphasized the importance of staying vigilant. She stated, “The trend is evident. For three consecutive years, the amount we have secured for Thenue tenants has steadily increased. It has never been more crucial for individuals to reach out to us to ensure they are not missing out on potential benefits.”

The latest figures from Thenue reveal some striking insights:

  • £448,682 acquired in Universal Credit
  • £386,242 acquired in Housing Benefit
  • £180,029 acquired in Adult Disability Payment
  • £104,206 acquired in Personal Independence Payments
  • Additional sums obtained for benefits such as pension credit, council tax rebates, and the State pension

Mr Naylor expressed, “This accomplishment exemplifies the continuous support provided by housing providers to their communities. The team at Thenue recognizes the pressing need for such assistance and is dedicated to fostering sustainable, resilient, and connected communities where the well-being and opportunities of individuals are enhanced.”
