Golspie locals honoured in new housing scheme.

The Highland Council recently celebrated the handover of a new social housing scheme in Golspie, named Campbell Close, in honour of two beloved local figures, Hamish Campbell and Campbell Port. The scheme, constructed by Capstone Construction Ltd, pays tribute to the significant contributions made by these two individuals to the Golspie community.

Cllr Richard Gale, chair of the Highland Council’s Sutherland area committee, expressed his delight in marking the opening of this new housing development and honouring the memories of Hamish and Campbell. Both individuals were deeply involved in village life, with Hamish being a well-known fish merchant and a talented piper, while Campbell Port, a quantity surveyor, was actively involved in various community organizations and sporting clubs.

The new housing scheme comprises 20 homes, including villas, bungalows, and cottage flats, making it the first Highland Council new build social housing project in Golspie in three decades. Cllr Glynis Campbell Sinclair, chair of the housing and property committee, emphasised the importance of providing affordable housing options to meet the diverse needs of the local community.

This development not only addresses the housing shortage in Golspie but also serves as a lasting tribute to the legacies of Hamish Campbell and Campbell Port, who dedicated their lives to serving and enriching the Golspie community. The Highland Council is proud to commemorate their contributions through the naming of this housing scheme.
