Suttie’s Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: 7 Days Review

Welcome to the Net Zero Club News Network, where we bring you the latest updates on electric vehicles and sustainable transportation solutions. Today, we take a closer look at Hyundai’s latest innovation – the Ioniq 5 N, a 650hp electric performance hatch that aims to sway even the most die-hard petrolheads to the EV side. Our very own Al Suttie took this powerhouse for a spin for a week, and here’s what he discovered.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after models of 2024, and spending time with this EV hot hatch was a thrilling experience. With up to 650hp at your disposal, it’s hard to believe that not so long ago, a decent contender in this class would have had just 200hp. The Ioniq 5 N sets its sights on rivals like the Volkswagen Golf R and Mercedes-AMG A35, showcasing Hyundai’s dedication to creating a serious performance car.

Painted in the striking Performance Blue colour, the Ioniq 5 N is impossible to miss on the road. From its unique 21-inch wheels to the distinctive front bumper and side skirts, every detail screams performance. But it’s what lies beneath the surface that truly reflects Hyundai’s commitment to excellence – with 42 additional welds to stiffen the body, this car is built for speed and stability.

Our journey with the Ioniq 5 N led us through the picturesque roads of Fife, where this electric powerhouse truly came alive. With its power, agility, and responsive steering, overtaking slow-moving traffic became a breeze. The car maintained its composure through every twist and turn, delivering a sports car-like driving experience that was both exhilarating and enjoyable.

As we explored tighter lanes and winding roads, it became apparent that the Ioniq 5 N’s size and weight could impact its agility. Despite its 2.2-tonne heft, the car’s advanced suspension and regenerative braking system worked overtime to provide a smooth and controlled ride. While it may not be as nimble as some smaller hot hatches, the Ioniq 5 N still impresses with its performance and handling.

With a blistering 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds, the Ioniq 5 N accelerates like a supercar, albeit with a more subtle charm typical of fast EVs. Adjusting the driving modes revealed two standout settings – one for a comfortable and refined ride, and the other to mimic the experience of a petrol-powered hot hatch. The latter option adds artificial engine sounds and gear changes, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Wrapping up our week-long test drive, the Ioniq 5 N proved to be a class act in terms of design, build quality, and interior space. With a range of 208 miles on a full charge, this performance-oriented EV offers a decent balance of power and efficiency. While it may not have convinced our reviewer to switch from a traditional ICE car, it certainly left a lasting impression as a formidable contender in the electric vehicle market.

In conclusion, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is a testament to the rapid advancements in electric vehicle technology, offering performance, style, and sustainability in one impressive package.
