Fife Housing Group boosts support during price crisis

Fife Housing Group recently hosted their annual Summer FLING community event in Abbeyview, providing valuable support to local residents during the ongoing cost of living crisis. The event, sponsored by Everwarm, offered guests the chance to enjoy fun activities, expert advice, and a range of fantastic freebies worth over £2,000.
At St Ninian’s Church in Abbeyview, visitors had the opportunity to take part in various cost of living themed activities, such as learning how to cook on a budget, grow their own vegetables, and create all-natural cleaning products. Fife Housing Group representatives were on hand to offer guidance on important topics like dealing with damp and mould, as well as checking payment and benefit entitlements.
One highlight of the event was the ‘Freeloved by FHG’ initiative, which involves recycling preloved clothing items and offering them to guests for free. In addition, partners like Salvation Army Employment Plus, Fife Gingerbread, HSBC, and Cosy Kingdom were present to provide professional advice on reducing energy bills, budgeting, and enhancing the local environment.
For the little ones, there were plenty of activities to keep them entertained, including a ceramic painting station, a colouring competition, and visits from therapy dogs provided by Cariad Pet Therapy. Positive feedback poured in from attendees, with comments such as “I loved that everyone was treated equally” and “My daughter really enjoyed the kids’ corner. The free soup-making kit will give us an activity to do together.”
Suzanne Hume, the engagement officer who spearheaded the event, expressed her joy at the overwhelming success of the Summer FLING. She stated, “After the success of our Spring FLING in April, we were thrilled to host a similar event in Abbeyview. Our Summer FLING was a massive hit, with a great turnout from tenants and community members.”
Hume continued, “Thanks to the generous sponsorship from our contractor, Everwarm, we were able to distribute a wide range of amazing freebies, including air fryers, supermarket vouchers, food bags, and cleaning supplies. Our team looks forward to organising more events like these in the future to assist people in navigating the challenges of the cost of living crisis.”
