Suzuki to Stop Production of Swift Sport, Ignis, Swace, and Jimny Van

Suzuki GB is making significant changes to its model lineup in a bold move towards embracing electric vehicles while bidding farewell to combustion models. The Japanese automaker has announced the discontinuation of four major models, namely the Swift Sport, Jimny LCV, Ignis, and hybrid Swace estate by early 2025 or sooner if dealer stock depletes. This strategic decision will pave the way for the introduction of Suzuki’s first fully electric car, the eVX, scheduled for release in the second half of 2025. Subsequent to this, the brand plans to roll out a series of electric vehicle models leading up to 2030.
By streamlining its model range, Suzuki aims to ensure compliance with EU and UK regulations, including the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate enforced at the beginning of 2025. The ZEV mandate stipulates that 22% of new vehicles sold by manufacturers must be zero-emission this year, with financial penalties for brands falling short of the target. This shift towards electric mobility aligns with the automotive industry’s global trend towards sustainable practices.
Dale Wyatt, the Managing Director of Suzuki UK, emphasised the importance of transitioning from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric powertrains. Wyatt stated, “The departure of these models will make room for EVs and enable us to compete in a market where the ratio of hybrid to electric vehicles is crucial. We are moving away from the ICE era, focusing on SUVs and the new Swift model. Starting in the latter half of 2025, our emphasis will be on the growth of electric vehicles.”
The unveiling of Suzuki’s eVX concept in early 2023 marked a significant step towards the brand’s electrification strategy. The eVX concept promises to blend Suzuki’s renowned 4×4 DNA with cutting-edge features of modern battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This electric SUV is designed to carry forward Suzuki’s legacy of 4×4 performance into the new era of electric driving, offering a genuine Suzuki SUV driving experience.
Featuring a robust design, the eVX is projected to provide a range of 310 miles on a single charge, courtesy of its 60kWh battery pack. This impressive range coupled with Suzuki’s commitment to infusing SUV characteristics into their electric vehicles positions the eVX as a promising contender in the growing electric SUV market.
