EHRA hosts community forum for Greater Easterhouse locals

Residents of Greater Easterhouse recently came together for a hustings event held at Blairtummock Hall in the offices of Blairtummock Housing Association. Hosted by the Easterhouse Housing and Regeneration Alliance (EHRA), the hustings provided a platform for attendees to engage with candidates from various political parties including Conservative and Unionist, Labour, Scottish National Party, and Trade Unionist Socialist Coalition (TUSC).

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Linda Cameron, the chairperson of EHRA and Provanhall HA, followed by Brian Hutcheson from Class 1 Consultants who served as the independent chair for the evening. Each candidate had the opportunity to make opening and closing statements and address questions from the audience.

Over the course of two hours, the hustings delved into crucial issues such as the challenges of constructing new social housing in Greater Easterhouse, concerns surrounding pensions and WASPI women, the rise in student accommodation, strategies to combat child poverty and the impact of the two-child benefit cap, VAT rates on renovation projects, and the consequences of public spending cuts.

Linda Cameron expressed her gratitude to all attendees for actively participating in the event and stressed the importance of exercising their right to vote on 4th July 2024. She also reminded everyone to bring along their proof of identity when heading to the polling stations.

Overall, the hustings event served as an informative and engaging platform for residents to interact with political candidates and gain insights into their perspectives on key issues affecting Greater Easterhouse.
