Dundee Council to Build 37 Homes at Former School Site

Angus Housing Association has put forward an exciting proposal to construct 37 affordable homes on the grounds of the former Gowriehill Primary School in Dundee. The project aims to not only provide much-needed housing but also to breathe new life into the currently vacant site.
The design, as outlined by Wellwood Leslie Architects, includes a mix of two-bedroom and three-bedroom semi-detached houses, as well as two-bedroom flats and ground floor wheelchair-accessible flats. These homes are specifically designed to meet the demand for affordable housing in the area and cater to a diverse range of residents, including young professionals, families, and seniors. The goal is to create a vibrant and inclusive community within the development.
The vision for this project is to transform the dormant site into a high-quality residential community that seamlessly integrates with the existing architectural character of the neighbourhood. Each property will come with allocated parking spaces, and there are plans to provide infrastructure for electric car charging, aligning with sustainability goals.
A standout feature of the design is the emphasis on sustainability. All houses will be powered solely by electricity for heating and cooling, paving the way for the use of renewable energy sources for all energy needs. This commitment to eco-friendly practices reflects a forward-thinking approach to modern housing development.
The proposal is currently under review by the Dundee City Council, with a decision expected in the near future. The potential approval of this plan represents a significant step towards addressing the housing needs of the community while also promoting environmental consciousness and inclusivity.
