Wheatley approved for Cardonald care home development

Wheatley Group has been granted the green light to proceed with the development of a former care home site in Cardonald, Glasgow. This exciting project will see the construction of 29 one and two-bedroom flats for social rent, along with one unit designated as an amenity space for residents. The site, located on Forfar Avenue adjacent to a bowling club, presents a prime opportunity for Wheatley Group to provide much-needed affordable housing in the area.

The journey to approval was not without its twists and turns. Following the withdrawal of a previous application for 30 flats towards the end of 2021, Wheatley Group teamed up with Anderson Bell + Christie to revise and enhance the designs. One key modification from the original plan was the removal of exclusively north-facing single-aspect flats, with only five single-aspect flats remaining in the new proposal. These adjustments demonstrate a commitment to creating a more optimal living environment for future residents.

A plan to build flats at the site of a former care home in Glasgow has been given the go-ahead.

Now, with the necessary approvals in place, Wheatley Group can forge ahead with transforming the vacant site into a vibrant community hub. The inclusion of an amenity space within the development highlights the focus on fostering a sense of community and well-being among residents. This thoughtful approach aligns with Wheatley Group’s ethos of creating sustainable and thriving neighbourhoods.

Furthermore, the strategic location of the site offers convenient access to essential amenities, transport links, and green spaces, enhancing the overall quality of life for future residents. The careful consideration given to the design and layout of the flats reflects Wheatley Group’s dedication to ensuring that residents enjoy comfortable and functional living spaces.

As construction commences and the vision for the site begins to take shape, anticipation builds for the positive impact this development will have on the local community. With a focus on sustainability, affordability, and community engagement, Wheatley Group’s project in Cardonald sets a promising example for future developments in the region.
