Heung-Min Son joins Homeless World Cup’s #passforhome challenge for charity

Heung-Min Son, the renowned footballer from Korea, is championing the cause of the Seoul 2024 Homeless World Cup’s #passforhome challenge. His support aims to raise awareness for the upcoming tournament in Korea’s capital in September this year.
The captain of Tottenham Hotspur, who has graced the English Premier League since 2015, was handed his #passforhome by his former Korea Republic teammate Keun-Ho Lee, who serves as the chairman of the Seoul 2024 Local Organising Committee.
Heung-Min Son, widely regarded as one of the greatest Asian footballers of all time, is leading the #passforhome challenge to spark a message of hope and inspiration globally ahead of the 19th edition of the Homeless World Cup, set to take place in Seoul this September (21st – 28th), marking the first instance of the tournament being hosted in Asia.
The #passforhome initiative, launched by Keun-Ho Lee recently, aims to foster awareness and engagement leading up to the Seoul 2024 Homeless World Cup. This campaign illustrates how a simple pass can connect people worldwide, highlighting football as a powerful, universal, and unifying language.
Passing the baton to Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Hwang-Hee Chan, Son, who also captains Korea Republic, said: “This challenge represents a compelling campaign to ensure that we can all dream of a better life in a secure home. I invite you to join me and others in this wave of change.
“Your pass of hope may lead to a game-winning goal with the ability to transform the world. Let’s collectively make a positive impact!”
Mel Young, co-founder and president of the Homeless World Cup, expressed: “We are delighted that the #passforhome challenge is now underway. The inaugural pass from Keun-Ho Lee to Heung-Min Son showcases the influence and scope of the Homeless World Cup, from Seoul to London, paving the way for our exciting journey towards the Seoul 2024 Homeless World Cup.
“Our aspiration is for the world to witness the power of collective support and appreciation for individuals and organisations dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives. We urge both our existing and new supporters to participate, create their #passforhome, and pass it on to friends, colleagues, and family – coming together to raise awareness on the global issue of homelessness.
“We are thrilled to have the backing of one of the Premier League’s most iconic players, Heung-Min Son brings a spark of enthusiasm and zeal whenever he steps onto the football field. His endorsement prior to the inaugural Homeless World Cup in Asia is a significant moment for all associated with the tournament. From Heung-Min Son to Hwang-Hee Chan, this marks just the beginning of the #passforhome challenge, and we anticipate numerous passes worldwide before September arrives.”
The tournament will witness participation from nearly 50 countries, with 500 players competing across 8 days in this world-class sporting spectacle.
64 teams have been invited to compete from 49 Homeless World Cup Member Countries, with 44 teams partaking in the Men’s Homeless World Cup and 20 teams in the Women’s Homeless World Cup.
