XPO boosts green efforts at Tour de France

Logistics giant XPO has excitingly revealed that it will serve as the Official Transport Partner for the renowned Tour de France for the 44th consecutive year, all while championing sustainability objectives.

This year, XPO Logistics has pledged to reduce the environmental impact of the iconic cycling event by implementing eco-friendly practices, such as utilising HVO biofuel and deploying an electric truck.

In addition to supporting the Tour de France, XPO Logistics will also be responsible for transporting the Tour de France Femmes Avec Zwift as their Official Transport Partner, marking a significant milestone since the inauguration of the Women’s Tour in 2022.

A dedicated team of 59 skilled XPO Logistics drivers will diligently move from stage to stage, ensuring the seamless transportation of all equipment essential for the successful logistical operations of the Tour de France.

In a bid to minimise environmental harm, the Tour de France has once again opted for the LESS HVO solution, introduced by XPO Logistics in 2023.

This sustainable solution, characterised by low emissions, harnesses the power of HVO biofuel to slash CO2 emissions by a staggering 90% and reduce fine particle and NOx pollution by up to 30% when compared to conventional diesel.

The adoption of biofuel in 2023 led to a noteworthy reduction of 136,571 kg of CO2 for a consumption of 48,826 litres. Similarly, the women’s edition, Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, experienced a reduction of 18,976 kg of CO2 through the use of 6,784 litres of HVO biofuel.

In a groundbreaking move, a 100% electric road tractor will also journey from Mâcon to Nuits-Saint-Georges and make a grand appearance at the Tour’s finish in Saint-Vulbas.

In alignment with XPO Logistics’ vision, Thomas Cariou, CSR Director at Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.), commended the partnership and stressed the importance of prioritising efficiency and sustainability in organising the Tour de France.

He said, “Once again, this year, we have set ourselves the goal of organising a Tour that combines efficiency and sustainability, and we know that we can count on XPO to help us achieve this target. Together, we are making progress every year, and this joint commitment strengthens our determination to make each new Tour a complete success and an exceptional event.”
