ng Homes wins awards for community projects

ng homes, a well-known housing association in North Glasgow, recently received recognition at two prestigious award ceremonies for their outstanding contributions to community initiatives. The EY Foundation Impact Awards, held on Monday, 17 June 2024 in Glasgow, saw ng homes being nominated in two categories – EY Foundation External Volunteer and Scotland Employer Partner. Greg Cann, the Project Manager, was honoured with the External Volunteer award for his exceptional work in supporting employability and engaging with local community groups and schools.

The EY Foundation External Volunteer award recognises the dedication of volunteers who have made significant contributions to meeting the developmental needs of young children within the community. This recognition is a result of their involvement in the EY Your Future programme, a six-month initiative targeted at students looking to enter the workforce directly after school. The programme provides participants with employability skills training, interactive workshops, and paid work experience opportunities.

Additionally, ng homes also participated in the Scottish Transport Awards (STA) last week and received a nomination for Excellence in Walking, Public Realm, and Cycling initiatives, in collaboration with community partners Cycling Scotland. The association was proud to receive a Highly Commended recognition in this competitive category, acknowledging their innovative and comprehensive Active Travel initiatives supported by Cycling Scotland funding. These initiatives include projects such as tenant bike storage, engagement activities like Early Years ‘Learn to Ride’ and ‘Dr Bike’ bicycle maintenance sessions.

The Scottish Transport Awards’ ‘Excellence in Walking, Public Realm, and Cycling’ category recognises policies and projects that enhance the street environment and promote cycling strategies for the benefit of the community.

Catherine Rossine, chair of ng homes, expressed her joy at receiving the award and commendation, highlighting the organisation’s dedication to community support and engagement. She stated, “These awards reflect ng homes’ commitment to promoting our Active Travel programme, cycling initiatives and making a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of our tenants and residents in North Glasgow.

Greg Cann, the Project Manager, also shared his delight at the recognition, emphasising ng homes’ ongoing commitment to the community and their efforts to promote Active Travel and cater to the needs of tenants, residents, and the community as a whole.

He added, “The recognition at the EY Foundation Impact Awards and the Scottish Transport Awards is a significant achievement for us, and we are inspired to continue our work in ensuring that sustainable and active travel options are accessible to everyone in our community. This recognition motivates us to provide the necessary support and resources for our residents to thrive.”
