Barratt aids Fife charities helping families

Two Fife charities are making strides in improving the quality of life for families in the region, thanks to the recent support from Barratt Developments’ Community Fund.

As part of their commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of residents in the areas they operate, Barratt Developments East Scotland, encompassing Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, donates £1,500 per month to local charities in its division.

The first charity to benefit from this initiative is Fife Gingerbread, based in Glenrothes. Fife Gingerbread provides accessible, non-judgemental support, advice, and information to lone parents, with around one in four children in Fife growing up in poverty. Through various projects, Fife Gingerbread aims to empower families, enhance wellbeing, and ensure children have the childhood they deserve.

Barratt Developments East Scotland has donated £1,500 to Fife Gingerbread, with nine staff members also volunteering their time over two days at the charity’s allotment project.

Lindsey Proctor, communications and fundraising coordinator at Fife Gingerbread, expressed gratitude for the support received, highlighting the positive impact on local families in need during the school holidays. She emphasised the value of the ongoing relationship with Barratt, which continues to make a tangible difference in the support provided.

Proctor further added, “The team at Barratt truly understood our services, from helping source equipment suppliers to actively participating in our allotment project. Their involvement has enhanced outdoor spaces for recreational activities, provided food for groups, and offered educational experiences for families and children.”

Similarly, Families First in St Andrews has also received £1,500 as part of Barratt Developments’ Community Fund. The organisation works with children and young people, along with their families, who have additional support needs in northeast Fife.

Morag Coleman, manager at Families First, acknowledged the importance of community contributions in making a positive impact on children facing adversities. She highlighted the significance of the donation in fostering one-to-one relationships between volunteers and over 50 children, offering them new experiences and support.

Alison Condie, managing director at Barratt Developments East Scotland, expressed pride in supporting essential organisations like Fife Gingerbread and Families First, which play a crucial role in providing services to Fife’s communities.

Condie stated, “Our commitment is to give back to the communities where we build, whether through donations or volunteer work. We aim to have a positive impact and help both Fife Gingerbread and Families First in their outstanding efforts to help Fife families prosper.”
