New Scottish Empty Homes Manager Welcomed.

The Scottish Empty Homes Partnership has recently appointed Tahmina Nizam as its new national manager, marking an exciting development for the organisation. Funded by the Scottish Government and hosted by Shelter Scotland, this partnership is dedicated to the crucial task of revitalizing empty homes and transforming them into affordable housing options whenever possible.

Bringing a wealth of experience in housing and homelessness sectors, Tahmina has spent a decade working tirelessly to address these pressing issues. Her journey in this field has been a remarkable one, starting from frontline roles and culminating in her most recent position at Fair Way Scotland. This organisation focuses on eliminating destitution among individuals lacking current statutory and Home Office assistance.

Driven by a deep-rooted passion to instigate systemic changes that benefit everyone, especially the most vulnerable segments of society, Tahmina has a proven track record of establishing accommodation options in previously unexplored geographical areas. These initiatives have provided much-needed housing stability to those who would otherwise face precarious living conditions or resort to sleeping rough.

Expressing her enthusiasm for this new role, Tahmina remarked, “I am thrilled to be a part of the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership during such a critical period in Scotland’s housing crisis. As the urgency of this crisis intensifies, an increasing number of individuals are finding themselves without a secure and permanent home.”

She continued, “Currently, a staggering 10,000 children in Scotland are residing in temporary accommodations. Given the severe shortage of adequate social housing options across the nation, the work of the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership in bringing existing properties back into circulation has never been more vital.”

Alison Watson, the director of Shelter Scotland, also expressed her delight at welcoming Tahmina to the team, highlighting the organization’s commitment to supporting the Partnership in its mission to address the housing needs that are prevalent throughout Scotland.
